Its called an advance, and they differ in sizes based on how much that side advanced. Referring to your comment ukraine had a large advance in Vovchansk because they counterattacked and advanced however far they did. And russia advanced in that "small" area because their attack pushed that far.

@@fred4687 Russia is completely focussing on gaining territory, while Ukraine is focussing on attrition. That's why Russian losses are so high and Russian gains so low. There is no new push, just one attack. And no forces are being diverted. It's a city, the Ukrainians were already there.

Russia is getting desperate. They heard a new aid package was coming, so they needed to quickly do something to weaken Ukraine before that equipment arrived, so they attacked with too weak a force. This only resulted in Russia further reducing their strength to the point they barely have any reserves left (about 30k reserves for the entire front) If Ukraine had the power right now, they could break through and Russia would not be able to send enough reserves to stop the gap. Luckily for Russia, Ukraine isn't there yet.

@@crazyguy5115 Yeah, at the start of the war Ukraine had more than enough volunteers. In fact, a good amount of volunteers were turned away from volunterring and told to wait 4-6 months, especially if they don't have prior military experience. Zelensky then said "we won't resort to kidnapping people because we want European values etc." (aged like milk). Well, over two years into the war and the casulties are so high that there's a big desperation in Ukraine right now - a lot of men are hiding, and I can't even describe all the torture methods they use for kidnapped men on the streets, lest my comment get deleted. Even essential personel like doctors are being kidnapped, and there's still a big shortage of personel. It's crazy, and I stand against forced conscription firmly.
